Mis au jour \u00e0 partir de 1974 sur le site de Mont\u2019e Prama<\/strong>, ces colosses de pierre constituent l\u2019un des t\u00e9moignages artistiques les plus extraordinaires de la M\u00e9diterran\u00e9e antique.<\/p>\n

Les G\u00e9ants sont des statues monumentales de plus de deux m\u00e8tres de haut, sculpt\u00e9es dans du gr\u00e8s local et repr\u00e9sentant des archers, des guerriers et des pugilistes. Dat\u00e9es entre le IX\u1d49 et le VIII\u1d49 si\u00e8cle av. J.-C., elles sont consid\u00e9r\u00e9es comme les plus anciennes statues monumentales en ronde-bosse d\u2019Europe occidentale<\/strong>.
Avant Mont\u2019e Prama, on pensait que la sculpture monumentale \u00e9tait l\u2019apanage des civilisations grecque et \u00e9trusque. Cette d\u00e9couverte a au contraire d\u00e9montr\u00e9 que, d\u00e8s l\u2019\u00e9poque nuragique, la Sardaigne poss\u00e9dait une culture capable d\u2019exprimer des formes artistiques complexes, symboliques et d\u2019un grand impact visuel.<\/p>\n

Une nouvelle vision de la sculpture pr\u00e9historique<\/h2>\n

Les G\u00e9ants ont red\u00e9fini la notion m\u00eame de \u00ab pr\u00e9histoire \u00bb en M\u00e9diterran\u00e9e. Non plus une \u00e9poque de simples objets fonctionnels, mais une p\u00e9riode o\u00f9 l\u2019art<\/strong>, l\u2019id\u00e9ologie<\/strong> et la repr\u00e9sentation du pouvoir<\/strong> s\u2019exprimaient \u00e0 travers des \u0153uvres monumentales.
Les yeux circulaires sculpt\u00e9s au compas, les postures solennelles et la r\u00e9p\u00e9tition typologique des figures sugg\u00e8rent un langage symbolique codifi\u00e9, probablement li\u00e9 au culte des anc\u00eatres ou \u00e0 la c\u00e9l\u00e9bration d\u2019une \u00e9lite guerri\u00e8re.<\/p>\n
